Committee Vacancies
Several long-standing members of your Committee decided not to stand for re-election at the AGM or to retire from that date.
Thankfully, a number of members have come forward to fill the vacancies. However, the Society still needs a full-time Chairperson, Secretary, Exhibitions Co-ordinator, IT Support and a leader for the demonstrations sub-committee. Volunteers are also required to provide practical help at demonstrations exhibitions. If you feel you could take on one of these roles please contact the Interim Society Secretary.
Please check your member newsletter for all the latest society news.

Spring Newsletter Summary – May 2023
Dear Members
Spring Exhibition – 24th – 27th March 2023 at Upton-by-Chester Golf Club
Our recent Exhibition was held in the Foyer and Ballroom of the Clubhouse incorporating a successful “Meet the Artist Evening” on Friday 24th March, 7pm – 8.30pm. Wine and fruit juice were served. Previous buyers, friends and family were warmly welcomed.
Members provided a wonderful selection of paintings of all sizes and shapes to fill our screens, resulting in plenty of choice for our visitors to admire. Greetings Cards and Sculptures were also available to purchase.
59 Artists provided 246 paintings of which 186 framed and 60 mounted, and 8 Sculptures. We were pleased with our sales figures – 35 paintings, 1 Ceramic and 1 Stoneware.
The Raffle in aid of the Syria/Turkey DEC Earthquake appeal raised £105.00.
Our visitors also had the opportunity to vote for their favourite painting.
Excellent attendance figures over the four days were recorded, particularly Sunday, with over 115 visitors on the day. On Monday many thanks are due to member John Spanton who kindly demonstrated in his unique style for the visiting public.
We would very much like to thank all those members who so diligently helped in whatever way; preparing for, handing-in, stewarding, taking down, distributing flyers and posters and other related tasks.
We must thank the Directors and members of Upton Golf Club very much for allowing us the use of their delightful premises. They seemed very pleased to see us back there once again.
Demonstrations
We are pleased to report that our Autumn and Spring Demonstration Programme has been a great success and has been well attended by Members. We will be announcing the Autumn Demonstration Programme over the summer at the same venue – St Mary’s Centre, Overleigh Road, Handbridge, Chester CH4 7JS. Demonstrator to be advised.
Enjoy the Summer and ……….. keep on painting …………..

SUMMER 2022 News Letter – Update
Dear Members
May we extend a warm welcome to all our new members. We hope you will enjoy your membership and the forthcoming programme of events.
First of all, we would like to thank Jean Millington who has been monitoring our Facebook page for some months now and also thanks to Nick Taylor who has kindly agreed to help Neil with the administration and updating of our website.
Our Grand Arty Bring and Buy Social at St Mary’s Centre, Handbridge raised a fabulous total of £250 donated to the DEC Ukraine Appeal. Very many thanks to all those who came and helped with the sale (Judy Bradshaw) and with the constant supply of refreshments (Sheila and Alan Stove) and of course those who supported the event. Yummy cakes!!
Deirdre and your Committee are all working hard to put the final touches to the Eclectic Art Exhibition at Castle Park Arts Centre, commencing on 29th June until 6th August. A few of the Committee visited Castle Park Arts last Friday and were amazed at the ‘buzz’ of the Centre. The refreshments were reasonably priced and there are several little craft shops around the Centre. There is also a fabulous park and children’s playground, should you have young relatives who want to burn off some energy!! I understand there is sometimes light musical entertainment towards the weekend to entertain you outside, underneath the awnings. You may also like to have a look at the Art Exhibition whilst you are there! I hear there will also be some brilliant artwork for sale from 29th June …….. Altogether a wonderful day out. Admission is free. Opening times of the Castle Park Arts Centre are Tuesday – Saturday 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Please help to publicise this event. Poster and further details are now on the website www.grosvenorarts.org.uk. (see poster below) There is additional parking at Castle Park, which is off the main road (A56) into Frodsham from Chester direction, adjacent to Castle Park House (turn right before the railway bridge). It’s only a short walk to the Arts Centre from the car park Postcode: WA6 6SB (OS Original SJ514 775). Don’t forget the ‘Meet the Artist Evening’ on Friday 1st July 7 – 9 p.m. at Castle Parks Art Centre. You may even recognise a few of us there!
Our successful Upton Golf Club Wall Exhibition continues with the 4th display having been hung recently which will conclude 12 months availability for you, our members. We will be contacting you again shortly when we have finalised our plans for the coming months.
Tuesday Painters have now finished for the Summer, and will be recommencing in September by kind permission of Upton Golf Club. We will be announcing further dates to you shortly. Thanks are also due to Anne Farquhar who kindly hosted our Outdoor Painting Group on 11th June. Those who weren’t able to attend missed a treat (especially the cakes!). There seems to be an ongoing theme here! Thank you Anne for your kindness and hospitality and for all your hard work. It is much appreciated.
The next sessions of the Outdoor Painting Group are:-
09.07.22 Sandy Lane, Chester – meet at the car park near to the paddling pool.
NO MEETING IN AUGUST
10.9.22 The Old Dee Bridge – meet at the bottom of Greenway Street, Handbridge. We’re not aware if there are toilets or refreshments available so make sure you are prepared for that.
8.10.22 The Groves and Grosvenor Park – meet at the bridge.
All meetings are from 10.30 to 12.30 with a ‘throwdown’ at 12.30 where you can share your work (or not). I’m with the ‘throw away’ group! Someone will remain at the meeting site for 15 minutes to meet any late comers. You are of course free to come and go at any time. Keep your equipment to a minimum. You may need to bring a chair and you will definitely need to be prepared for British weather. Membership of the Grosvenor Art Society isn’t a requirement, but obviously we would like you to join eventually – so bring a friend or come on your own. All are welcome. Contact – Patricia Parry.
And ………………………….. keep on painting!!
With best wishes from Your Committee
